@How to become a PPF member

The Pan Pacific Foundation (PPF) is a non-profit organization which seeks to promote a deeper understanding of Japan and its people. One of the main activities of PPF is to organize homestays for members throughout Japan.

PPF provides short term homestay programs to selected members. You must be at least 18 years old to apply for the homestay programs. The maximum time we could arrange homestay for every student is approximately 4 weeks, and a student is only allowed to stay in the same hostfamily for one week. Therefore, depending on your purpose of stay, our program may not be best suitable because you will be asked to move from one family to another every week.

It is also important to keep in mind that your application deadline is one month prior to your trip in Japan. Therefore, you must allow yourself enough time to obtain the application package from us and submit the requested documents to us.

In the process of application, we will require you to submit us the following five documents:

1. Application form (enclosed in package)
2. Japanese Language Proficiency (enclosed in package)
3. Written Oath (enclosed in package)
4. Letter of Recommendation (A letter of recommendation in either Japanese or English: the letter writer is asked to give his/her personal impressions of your character and the quality of your previous work or study)
5. Essay (two-page essays in Japanese and English: free subject, preferably about Japan or it's culture)

If you would like to receive a PPF application package through postal service, please wire-transfer 2,000 yen to our PPF bank account in Japan. To inquire more about the PPF programs, or obtain the details on our PPF bank account, please email us at:
